WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) is back with more exciting events this year, one of which is their National Conference! The first of its kind, this conference will be spanning over two days, March 16th and 17th, and will focus on innovation. With the theme being “Imagine, Innovate, Inspire,” and featuring representatives from over 50 industries, such as Accenture and GE, this conference will provide a great networking opportunity for students.
With workshops such as Stress-Free Living and Leadership 101, as well as stimulating presentations given by some of the industry’s finest, it will definitely be a jam-packed weekend. A few of the keynote speakers will be including the President and CEO of the MaRS Discovery District, the co-founder of WIND, the CEO of Hydro One, as well as the founder of Youth in Motion. Catherine LaCavera, a U of T alumni, as well as the Director of Litigation at Google, will also be speaking. Additionally, a panel, presented by WISE and GE, which will be focusing on the future of energy and medicine, will be held.
If all of these reasons weren’t enough to convince you to go to the conference, then the competitions will surely do the trick. One of the competitions that will be held over this weekend, with a prize of $1500 cash going to its winners, is Cisco’s “Tech-Case Competition.” And, to top it all off, WISE’s conference will also be having a huge career fair with companies looking to hire students just like you.
Given the opportunity to interact and network with influential people in the industry, such as the president of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, and possibly secure a summer employment or internship position, this event is definitely one to check out! In fact, U of T Engineering is even subsidizing a part of the costs, meaning that as an engineering student you will actually get 60% off of the original ticket price. Now you really don’t have an excuse not to go!
